LISA SOLOMON

EMBROIDERED PORTRAITS WORKSHOP

JULY 11, 2015 10 AM - 1:30 PM

In this class we will turn a photograph or drawing into a textural keepsake/piece of art.

We will discuss ways to transfer your image to fabric, how to choose colors, thread weights that make sense, and some basic stitch options to help you complete your project. You could easily add your fabric piece to a pillow, tote bag, or frame it for safe keeping.

The 3-hour workshop costs $75. All necessary materials (hoop, thread, needles, fabric) and snacks will be provided. Plus, Lisa will treat us to a visual tour of her own work!

Oakland, California artist Lisa Solomon's drawings and installations have been featured at numerous national and international venues.

Profoundly interested in the idea of hybridization (sparked from her hapa heritage – she is ½ Japanese and ½ Caucasian), Solomon’s mixed media works revolve around the themes of domesticity, craft, masculinity/femininity, and the pursuit of art as science/research.

Lisa regularly teaches art at various colleges in the Bay Area. She will be in Baltimore for the opening of her collaborative show with Christine Buckton Tillman at Gallery CA in Station North in July 2015.
